VII Mathematics Profit and Loss Assignment CBSE

12/2/2012

Profit and Loss Assignment  VII MathematicsThe terms profit and loss are used in business transactions. A merchant buys goods at a price to sell to customers. The price at which he/she buys the goods is its cost price (C.P.). He/She sells the goods at a price to the customer, which is known as the selling price (S.P.).

The difference between the selling price and the cost price determines the profit or loss the merchant makes. If S.P. > C.P., the merchant makes a profit of (S.P. – C.P.). If S.P. < C.P., the merchant makes a loss of (C.P. – S.P.).

However, it is not enough to merely know the actual value of profit/loss – it is important to consider the size of profit/loss in proportion to the cost of the goods. For this reason, profit/loss is often determined as a percentage of the cost price.

English Assignments      Class X    Sample paper SA_II_2014
                                                Passage 1
Su  means  number  and  duko  means  single. The  game  of  Sudoku has  many  similarities  to the  game  of  life.the  game  consists  of  9*9 grid  divided  into  3*3  boxes  in  which  a  few  numbers  called  “given” – the  number  of  given  varies  between  17  and  30  for  a  puzzle  to  be  reasonably  viable-are  already  in  place.

In life, too, you  start  with  a  given  set  of  notions  and  then  work  from  thereon. In  Sudoku,  you  need  to  follow  a  set  of  rules  to  build  up  the  grid, filling  each  row, column  and  box  with numbers  ranging  from  1 to  9, so  much  like  in  life  where  you  have  to  go on  your  way  without  antagonizing  anyone  else. Respect  every  number  (person)  and   things  would  be  fine.  While  trial  or  error  may  or  may  not  work  the  correct  technique  is  in  eliminating  numbers  that  don’t  fit  in  a  particular box.

In Sudoku ,  the  arrangement  of  the  given  numbers  is  symmetrical. This  is  instructive  in  life, on  how  to  maintain  steadfast  faith,  poise  and  equanimity  despite  situations  when  everything  turns  topsy-turvy.

There  is  a  subtle  difference  between  the  two  as  well. Make  a  mistake  and  you  can  erase  it  and   begin  all  over  again  in  Sudoku. Not  so   in  life. You  can  learn  a  lesson  though, and  avoid  making  the  same  mistake  in  future.

Answer the  following  questions  by  selecting  the  most  appropriate  option  from  the  ones  given  below-

1.      The  given  numbers  in  Sudoku  are  comparable  to  the …………..  in  life.

a) rules

b) notions

c) people

d) respect

2.      In Sudoku, by  eliminating  numbers  that  do  not  fit  we

a) keep  reducing  errors  to  succeed  in  life

b) keep  adding  the  chances  to  solve  the  puzzle

c) restrict  our  choices

d) open  new  avenues

3.      In  life , symmetry  is  maintained  through

a)patience  and  hardwork

b) balance  inspite  of  hardships

c) constant  trust

d) friends  and  enemies

4.      In  life  we  can  learn  from  our  mistakes  but  we  cannot

a) begin  afresh

b) undo  them

c) relive  them

d) commit  them  again

5.      To  ‘antagonise’  in  the  passage  means

a) to be determined

b) to  be  noticeable

c) to  please

d)  to  make  someone  angry

Passage 2  A LITTLE GRAIN OF GOLD
I had gone abegging from door to door in the village path when thy golden chariot appeared in the distance like a gorgeous dream and I wondered who was this king of all kings!

My hopes rose high and me thought my evil days were at an end, and I stood waiting for alms to be given unasked and for wealth scattered on all sides in the dust.

The chariot stopped where I stood. Thy glance fell on me and thou camest down with a smile. I felt that the luck of my life had come atlast. Then of a sudden thou didst hold out thy right hand and say,”What hast thou to give to me?”

Ah, what a kingly jest was it to open thy palm to a begger to beg! I was confused

And stood undecided and then from my wallet and slowly took out the least little grain of corn and gave it to thee.

But how great my surprise when at the day’s end I emptied my bag on the floor to find at least a little grain of gold among the poor heap. I bitterly wept and wished that I had the heart to give them all.
Choose the most appropriate option:

1)”The begger was happy to see the golden chariot because:

a) he thought there was a king of kings

b) he expected unasked arms

c) the chariot was beautiful

d) the chariot was made of gold

2)His hopes rose high because:

a) it was king of kings

b) the chariot was made of gold

c)the king alighted the chariot happily
